The University of Eastern Finland is a public multidisciplinary research university with three campuses and 14,000 students. The campuses are located in the cities of Joensuu, Kuopio ans Savonlinna. Founded in January 2010 as the result of the merger of the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio, the university has the following faculties: the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, and the Philosophical Faculty.
The Joensuu Campus is located in the heart of the city of Joensuu, a flourishing commercial
and industrial center with about 72,000 inhabitants. The surrounding province
of North Karelia, dominated by lakes and vast forests, is famous for the
beauty of its unspoiled nature. Joensuu is also known as a lively centre of music and theatre. The Ilosaarirock Festival, held every July in Joensuu, attracts tens of thousands of young people from all over Finland.

Study tours:
Some of the above programmes organise study tours to Russia and the Baltic
countries in cooperation with the University
of Eastern Finland’s partner institutions in these countries.
Exchange dates:
Fall semester: early September to late December;
Spring semester: early January to May.
Accommodation:
In studio-type apartments with a kitchenette and a bathroom or in single-occupancy
rooms in shared apartments of the Student Housing Company Joensuun Elli.
